State of Play Theatre raised nearly $10,000 for Matt:

BenefitPosterState of Play Theatre was invited to bring their 2006 tour production of The City That Cried Wolf to Cape Cod in August, 2007. All box office proceeds went to support Matt’s cause. The benefit performance raised $10,000 for The Phantom Limb Trust.

On November 13, 2006, 20 year-old Matthew Dilts-Williams was returning home to Cape Cod after visiting his father, when his car went off the road and into a stand of trees. During his 10-day stay at William Backus Memorial Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut doctors were forced to amputate his badly damaged left arm four inches below his shoulder, as well as rebuild his left eye socket by inserting a metal plate in his cheek. Devastatingly, Matt had no health insurance at the time of the accident. His current medical expenses related to the accident total approximately $85,000. In addition, Matt was denied Social Security Disability Insurance because utilizing the criterion applied by Social Security, it was ruled he was not disabled enough to collect. The accident has not broken Matt’s spirit nor lessened his compassion for others.

Loren Vandegrift, one of SOP’s founding members and former resident of Cape Cod, is a childhood friend of Matt.
