What We Look For:

Innovative writers committed to creating work of the highest quality in a collaborative workshop process. 

Theatre: Full length plays of any genre (excluding musicals & solo shows), one act plays with the potential to be developed into full lengths. 
Film: We accept submissions of any length or genre, scripts should be more dialogue driven to maximize benefit from the workshop process with actors

What We Provide:

  • A focused workshop process with a professional, experienced team (the “Play Group”), including Director, Dramaturge, and Actors
  • Free, public reading of the piece followed by moderated talk back with audience
  • Consideration of the piece for future full production 

If Accepted:

  • Writer will be assigned a primary contact as the Executive Producer of the project from State of Play Productions, writer may submit directors and dramaturges for consideration 
  • Writer will be introduced to director/dramaturge hired by State of Play Productions in a preliminary meeting to assure all parties work in tandem
  • Casting process is handled through Director and Executive Producer, writer may submit actors for consideration
  • A defined rehearsal process will be set: consisting of at least 12 hours of active rehearsal time, each session followed by an hour analysis with Director/Dramaturge and Executive Producer
  • Writer is expected to bring new pages to each rehearsal, making the changes that were agreed upon at the last rehearsal in addition to their own edits 
  • Process culminates in a staged reading followed by a moderated audience discussion
  • One week following staged reading there will be a wrap-up session with Director/Dramaturge and Executive Producer

Submission Process:
